About us
AI Carpentry is developing workshops to teach foundational concepts and skills in machine learning, deep learning, and the use of artificial intelligence tools to support open, reproducible research. Our mission is to empower people to make informed decisions about the use of artificial intelligence tools and methods in their projects and to prepare them to become advocates for judicious use of AI in research. The target audience of AI Carpentry is researchers and data scientists with little to no expertise in machine learning and artificial intelligence methods.
Visit the Lessons page for more details of the skills we teach.
AI Carpentry is not an official part of The Carpentries but was established by members of The Carpentries community and inspired by their approach. We are commited to the same core values and take a similar approach to teaching and curriculum design. We aim to apply for incubation as an official Lesson Program of The Carpentries in late 2026/early 2027.
We will achieve our mission by building a Community of Practice around the teaching of AI skills for research, via inclusive, interactive, hands-on workshops that center the value that humans bring to the research process.
